CSVPA EXTENDED & FOUNDATION DIPLOMA STUDENTS EXPAND THEIR CREATIVE TOOLKITS

Last week, CSVPA students studying the Extended Diploma in Creative Practice: Art, Design & Communication and the Foundation Diploma in Art & Design took part in an exciting and unique opportunity to explore and develop new skills to add to their creative toolkits.

Expand Your Toolkit Week has been designed by Rachel Burlington, Head of Foundation and Extended Diploma Art & Design, with the aim of providing our Art & Design students from across different specialist pathways with the opportunity to widen their experience and skillset. These new skills will allow them to embrace multidisciplinary working and versatility, as well as enhance their university portfolios.

Across the week students have undertaken a range of different workshops, selected from over 30 on offer, and delivered by our team of 15 specialist staff.

Amongst many sessions, student took advantage of the opportunity to:

  • experiment with alternative darkroom processes in our newly equipped and relocated darkroom
  • build augmented reality whilst exploring Cambridge Museums and Colleges
  • learn about gendered spaces and the decolonising of Architecture
  • develop rapid drawing skills through observing figures in combat
  • devising and animating a music video
  • visualise ideas through digital 3D modelling
  • apply designs to different surfaces using the heat press.

“You would be pushed to find an alternative independent Art & Design Further Education provision that offers such a vast array of expertise and opportunity,” said Rachel Burlington.

“Our success in enabling students to progress to some of the best Art and Design courses at University is in part down to our Art School ethos, curriculum, and enrichment opportunities where students are actively expected to push the boundaries of projects and opportunities, widening their creative thinking, and problem-solving abilities, through collaborative, interdisciplinary, and multidisciplinary engagement.”
