Sophie Crawford session leader

Celebrate Pride month with this open, welcoming singaround session of tunes, songs and stories.

A singaround is a folk singing session where everyone sits in a circle and takes turns to share a song, a tune or a poem – no one is obligated to sing, but everyone is always entitled to a turn. Bring a song, sing along or just listen, with instruments always welcome: the emphasis in a singaround is communal singing, so don’t be disconcerted if you start singing and people join in!

Sophie Crawford, co-founder of Queer Folk will lead the session and introduce some queer folk songs from the archive.

‎ ‎

Queer Folk was founded by Sophie Crawford and George Sansome and now encompasses a network of many more musicians, dancers, songwriters, music fans, and likeminded LGBTQIA+ people. Through residencies at the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library, at the Glasshouse International Centre for Music, and with Britten Pears Arts, Sophie and George found a wealth of queer folk songs and material ripe to be queered. They often get together to perform these songs, give talks, and lead workshops on queer folk music. Queer Folk run regular Queer Ceilidh Dance Parties at Cecil Sharp House in London, the Queer Folk Festival, a monthly radio show at Voices Radio, a regular esidential course at the National Centre for Folk Arts and host workshops, concerts, and LGBTQIA+ artist showcases.

Sophie Crawford is an author and musician from London. Her debut novel ‘My Ex-Grilfriend’s Wedding’ was published with Verve Books in November 2025. As a musician she has toured with Patrick Wolf, played in productions at the Globe, in the West End and has toured internationally with Ad Infinitum. She is the co-founder of Queer Folk which runs regular events around the country. She is the founder of the Harrison Singaround – a monthly free folk singing session and Patterned Ground, a night for new music and writing that takes place at Housmans Bookshop in London. She runs The Big Dyke Bookclub and a regular writing workshop.
